Terms of reference

The project terms of reference were to advise and assist the organisation to achieve the Investors in People Standard. The project involved 4.5 consultancy days.

Project aims and objectives

The objectives of the project were to:

bullet

diagnose the current position with respect to the Investors in People Standard and develop an action plan

bullet

help to implement the action plan and achieve Investors in People recognition

The organisation

SPICE employs around 20 people, is a registered charity and provides specialist care for severely handicapped people in the Horwich and Farnworth areas.

Process of delivery of the Investors in People project

The first phase of the project was to complete an Investors in People review (in April 1999). This was carried with a senior manager and the managing director by reviewing relevant documentation. Subsequently, an action plan was agreed to cover a 6 month period between May and November 1999.

The  second phase of the project was to help implement the agreed action plan. Hawkstone Consulting advised on the following key activities:

bullet

The restructuring of the existing business plan to contain specific and measurable targets and to make clear links to training and development needs.

bullet

The design of a training and development plan which included all identified training and development needs (individual and organisational), planned resources and which made clear links back to the business plan targets.

bullet

Awareness raising for staff regarding relevant Investors in People and training and development issues

bullet

Implementing an appraisal for top management

The project was funded by Bolton Bury Chamber.

The outcomes

SPICE achieved the Investors in People award in December 1999, as planned.

SPICE returned a post project questionnaire for this project.
