Malcolm is a graduate mechanical engineer with 9 years engineering and 16 years management consultancy experience.

Consultancy experience and achievements

In 16 years of management consultancy, Malcolm has worked with around 500 companies. With these companies, the following are some of the achievements:

·         Successful audit and implementation of ISO 9000 "Quality Systems" and resultant 3rd party certification of almost 200 clients. 

·         Successful running of ISO 9001 training courses, including internal auditing workshops, on behalf of Business Links, Chambers and directly for clients.

·         Measurable improvements in the quality of clients' products and services during the implementation of ISO 9001 Quality Systems.

·         Diagnosis, action planning, implementation, pre-assessment and final assessment of the "Investors in People" Standard for training and development. Worked with almost 300 organisations on Investors in People.

·         Successful implementation of Business Link and Chamber of Commerce sponsored "Managing Change” and “Process Re-engineering” Projects.

·         Successful implementation of the environmental management systems standard ISO 14001

·         Annualised savings realised by clients of up to 8 times the cost of the project.

Qualifications, skills and expertise

 Malcolm has an honours degree in mechanical engineering from Queens University in Belfast. He is a registered lead auditor for ISO 9001 with the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA registration number 01180024) and a registered assessor and adviser for Investors in People, through the Centre for Assessment and Recognition (North West). Malcolm is qualified through the “Audit Commission” to conduct “Best Value” inspections of local government in England and Wales. Malcolm is a trained “Charter Mark” assessor.  Malcolm is a listed consultant with several Business Links and Chambers of Commerce and was originally listed under the DTI Enterprise Initiative for Manufacturing and Quality. Malcolm's computer skills include "Microsoft Access" programming along with web page development, along with word processing, presentation slide and spreadsheets.

Employment experience and achievements

1989-1998, Operations director, UK based management consultancy

Built up a £400,000 consultancy business. Achieved ISO 9001 registration for the consultancy in November 1993, latterly transferring most systems to a computer database. Coordinated the achievement of Investors in People recognition in March 1994. Left in 1998 to set up Hawkstone Consulting.

1980-1989, Senior Project Engineer, British Nuclear Fuels Ltd.

Responsible to the Senior Projects Manager for the management of complex, multi-million pound, international,  engineering projects. Responsibilities included product design, development and qualification, specification of  manufacturing routes, supplier evaluation and selection, design and implementation of Quality and Information Technology Systems, control of project cost and installation schedules. Management of six to ten subordinate design engineers or draughtsmen. 

Successful completion of a £90 million project, i.e. within the planned timescale and cost, and operating at better than the design output.
