The following is an excerpt from a typical personnel health check report. This attempts to show the comprehensive nature of the health check but excludes the detailed findings and recommendations (this went into 6 pages)

Introduction

This report summarises the findings of a Human Resources Health Check carried out on XYZ Company by Hawkstone Consulting Ltd. on 24th November 1999.  Jayne Common spent one day with the Personnel Manager to examine current Company policies and procedures and carried out a full review of the current activity within each area of the Human Resource function.

Objective of Report

Hawkstone Consulting was approached by the Directors of XYZ Company to look at the HR function in an effort to determine any immediate areas of improvement and recommendations for future development of the function.  The Directors recognise the need to adopt a more strategic approach in aligning the activities of Human Resources with the overall goals of the organisation.

Methodology

Hawkstone Consulting  looked at each of the key areas of responsibility within the HR function and explored the findings of each of these key areas.  Finally conclusions have been drawn to summarise the main areas for immediate improvement and the recommended areas for long term development.

FINDINGS

H R Policies and Procedures.

H R policy and procedure is in place and well documented however the problem arises that some managers do not always comply with laid down procedure which is causing inconsistency in the way employees are treated.  

The Statement of Terms of Conditions of Service needs updating to comply with the Employment Rights Act 1996.

·         Update Company Handbook and ensure all employees have individual copy.
·         Carry out refresher training for all line Managers on the correct use of all Company Policy and Procedure.
