Terms of referenceThe project terms of reference were to advise and assist the company on a one-to-one basis to implement an ISO 9002 and BAFE QSP 94001 compliant quality management system. The project involved 10½ consultancy days. Project aims and objectivesThe objective of the project was to achieve ISO 9002 registration with an accredited certification body within 6 months of starting the project. The organisationFire Queen employs around 12 staff and specifies, installs and maintains fire extinguishers. Process of delivery of the ISO 9002 projectThe project started in November 1998. Firequeen staff were helped by Hawkstone Consulting Ltd. with the following elements of their quality system:-
In addition, Hawkstone Consulting completed several audits prior to the formal assessment. The project was funded by Business Link Stockport. The outcomesFirequeen achieved ISO 9002/ BAFE QSP 94001 in December 1999, 13 months after starting the project, with around 10 minor non compliances. The project was delayed by Firequeen’s own choice, in order that they could cope with ever increasing sales. In achieving ISO 9002, they have developed a practical quality system with a minimum of paperwork and bureaucracy. They will now be able to market themselves with ISO 9002 registration, a fact that should ultimately increase sales. Quality problems and complaints are now being formally recorded and objectives have been set at the management review for quality improvement. |
